Ice Cube, the legendary rapper and actor, has announced that he is working on a new solo album titled ‘Man Down’, which will be his first solo project since 2018’s ‘Everythang’s Corrupt’. He shared the news during a conversation with Chuck D’s Rapstation, where he said he hopes to finish the album in the next couple of weeks and release it soon.
“I’m working on an album that hopefully I can finish in the next couple of weeks and schedule to put it out, and yeah, I’m digging what I’m doing,” he said. “The name of the record is called Man Down, and, you know, it’s a pretty good record. I like it. It’s dope.”
Ice Cube did not reveal any other details about the album, such as the release date, tracklist, or features. However, he did reflect on his career and how he has stayed true to himself throughout the years.
“It’s a blessing, really. For one, I made a promise to myself when I got into this business that I wouldn’t let it change who I am as a person, so I was always willing to let the chips fall where they may and not worry about ‘I can’t do this, or my career will be over’ or ‘if I do this, will this happen?'” he said. “When you break when you’re starting off, going back to being broke is not an issue. That’s not motivation, like, ‘I’m going to be broke again; let me bow down to this bullshit.’ No.”
Ice Cube has been busy with other ventures besides music, such as his BIG3 basketball league and his recent performances. He also formed a supergroup called Mount Westmore with fellow rap icons Snoop Dogg, Too $hort, and E-40, and they released their debut album last December. Ice Cube has 10 solo albums under his belt, including classics like ‘AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted’ and ‘The Predator’. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time and one of the pioneers of gangsta rap.
Ice Cube will also perform with Ja Rule and Ashanti in Los Angeles on September 29 as part of KDAY’s 40th anniversary celebration. Fans are eagerly awaiting his new solo album, hoping it will live up to his legacy.
