Lil Wayne is celebrating his 41st birthday by giving his fans a gift. The rap legend has announced that he will drop a new project titled Tha Fix Before Tha VI this Friday, September 29.
The project serves as a prelude to his upcoming album Tha Carter VI and consists of 10 tracks with guest appearances from Jon Batiste, Euro, and Foushee. One of the songs is named after his longtime collaborator and friend 2 Chainz, who also confirmed that their joint album ColleGrove 2 will be released before the end of the year.
Tha Fix Before Tha VI follows Wayne’s compilation I AM MUSIC, which came out in March 2023 and featured some of his biggest hits from the past decade. Wayne has also been busy working on Tha Carter VI, which he first teased during a Young Money reunion show at Drake’s October World Weekend festival in Toronto in August 2022.
Since then, he has released two potential singles from the album: “Kant Nobody”, which samples DMX’s classic “Ruff Ryders Anthem” and is produced by Swizz Beatz, and “Kat Food”, which flips Missy Elliott’s “Work It”. He has also collaborated with Nas on the Magic 3 track “Never Die” and performed with Nicki Minaj, LL COOL J, Run-DMC, and other rap icons at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month.
Wayne took to Instagram to share the cover art and tracklist for Tha Fix Before Tha VI, which features a red-tinted portrait of him with his signature tattoos and dreadlocks. He captioned the post: “Tha Fix Before Tha VI: 9/29”.
