Exclusive interview with Patagonist

Today we had an exclusive chance to interview Patagonist:

What is your legal name and age?
My legal name is Winthrop Patrick Williams III.

How did you come up with a stage name?
Believe it or not I actually didn’t come up with my stage name. My friend Brandon came up with it. He pretty much told me at the time, there’s two characters I could be when approaching a song, the protagonist or the antagonist.

Where are you from?
I am from the suburbs of Chicago. Hazel Crest IL to be exact.

Where are you now?
I live in Country Club Hills IL, which is also a suburb of Chicago.

Why did you first start making music?
I started making music because of my passion for writing. I seen others around me expressing themselves musically with results and wanted the same. I seen people with years/months of writing and wanted the same.

Who would you say inspired you the most, as an artist?
Years ago, back when I first started, I would say drake, now it’s a little of everyone and everything. Michael Jackson, Tupac, Freddie Mercury, James brown, Kendrick Lamar and many more inspire me as an artists.

Talk me through your creative process.
I do everything off of how I’m feeling at the moment/time. A lot of stuff I’ve created that was well received was either freestyled or at a point in my life when I was sad/upset.

Do you remember the first rhyme you wrote?
I don’t recall my first rhyme at all. All I can remember was it was cheesy.

Where and how do you work best?
I work best when I’m going through something or when I freestyle. The feeling is more natural and authentic.

Have you heard the theory that some musicians write their best music while they’re depressed or going through a bad time?
I have heard of the theory that people write their best work when they’re going through something. I absolutely agree. Depression pushed you to places you’ve only dreamt of going with your skill or success.
