Drake Ties Michael Jackson for Most No. 1 Hits by a Male Solo Artist

Drake has achieved a remarkable feat by tying Michael Jackson for the most No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by a male solo artist.

The Canadian rapper’s latest collaboration with J. Cole, “First Person Shooter“, debuted at No. 1 on the chart dated October 21, 2023, giving Drake his 13th chart-topping song. This matches the record that Jackson set in 1995 with “You Are Not Alone”.

Drake and J. Cole are breaking records with their collaborative track “First Person Shooter.” As reported by Billboard, the song went straight to No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart along with Drake’s album For All the Dogs, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The achievement means that Drake and Jackson now share the title of fourth-most No. 1 songs on the Hot 100. The Beatles hold the overall record with 20, followed by Mariah Carey with 19 and Rihanna with 14.

Drake celebrated his milestone by sharing an edited selfie of the late King of Pop wearing an OVO hoodie on his Instagram account, along with the caption: “Mooooooooood.”

He also posted a photo of himself wearing a sparkly, MJ-inspired glove while out at dinner. In another post, he claimed that he should have already surpassed Jackson’s record, as he rapped about on “First Person Shooter” (“What the fuck, bro? I’m one away from Michael/ N-gga, beat it, n-gga, beat it”). He wrote: “Sicko Mode technically makes 14 but they didn’t count my feature so we got work to do,” referring to his 2018 collaboration with Travis Scott.

“First Person Shooter” also marks J. Cole’s first ever No. 1 single on the Hot 100. He previously came close with “My Life” in 2021 and “All My Life,” his collaboration with Lil Durk from earlier this year—both of which peaked at No. 2. The song is one of the many guest appearances on Drake’s For All the Dogs, which also features Yeat, 21 Savage, SZA, Bad Bunny, and more.

Drake has been a fan of Michael Jackson since he was a kid, and even posthumously collaborated with him on “Don’t Matter to Me” from his 2018 album Scorpion. Following MJ’s death in 2009, Drizzy spoke highly of the “Human Nature” hitmaker and how he grew up watching him. “Seeing Michael Jackson, for me, was one of the first times that I really [felt] the power of an entertainer,” he told MTV at the time.
