Exclusive Interview with Black Diamond

Her glow is incomparable, her talent unmatched, she’s the melanin beauty Black Diamond and her latest music video is as fire as her bars.

Black Diamond, the dark skin goddess is the rare find the industry once neglected to see the value in, but that all changed once she began stepping on necks and dropping banger after banger. Inspired by iconic female artists like Lil Kim, her energy is one of a boss and owns any beat she graces with her talents. Growing up in Tennessee with a Schizophrenic mother, Black Diamond was an intelligent young girl, but even being a straight A and B student, her future would be one with pitfalls along the way.

Black Diamond was a rebel, at one point running from the police at Walmart before being surrounded and locked up in jail. It took her best friend Robin to fly from St. Louis in a wheelchair to bond me out. Sadly, Black Diamond would experience one of her darkest moments in pursuit of her music career. Robin, the person she credits as being her everything, lost her life at the hands of a family member two days after attending one of her shows in Atlanta.

Black Diamond has since been doing it for Robin, releasing deep songs of depression like her heartbreak track, “I Need You,” to her twerk anthem “Let’s fu*k, right now, ass up, face down, do it..do it.. do it..do it” that’s been tearing up the clubs. Now with her latest single, “It’s Givin” featuring Just Brittany doing numbers, Black Diamond released the music video that is the peak of black body appeal and talent, giving you no choice but to turn up as she raps.

Today we had an exclusive chance to interview Black Diamond:

What is your legal name and age?
We’ll get to all that later, I got a warrant right now so I can’t be dropping my government name like that. I`ve been 25 for the past two birthdays.

What is your stage name and how did you come up with it?
I go by Black Diamond. I came up with it cause first of all I’m dark skin & I always felt like the diamond that was undervalued & unappreciated unlike white diamonds that was always glorified & loved. I was the most important rare find that no one could see the real value in like Black Diamonds.

Who would you say inspired you the most, as an artist?
Lil Kim.

What is still your biggest challenge?
Living without my best friend Robin, she was my everything! My confidant, my baby daddy, my life coach, & probably the only person who really loved me besides my granny. She’s a major reason I’m the Black Diamond I am today. She was killed by a family member two days after attending one of my shows with me in Atlanta.

What were your grades like at school?
I was a nerd in school, I made all As & Bs. My granny didn’t play about my report card.

Talk me through your creative process.
I write some of my best bars while driving in the car with the beat turned all the way up, Im not sure why but it creates a creative space that’s unmatched for me.

Have you heard the theory that some musicians write their best music while they’re depressed or going through a bad time?
I wrote one of my best songs while depressed called “I Need You”. I was thinking about all the people who played with my heart and never loved me correctly.

Where are you from?
My mom (who is highly schizophrenic) told me I was from Hawaii but I definitely think I’m from Tennessee

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into? When I ran from the police at Walmart and ended up being surrounded. I went to jail and Robin flew all the way from St. Louis in a wheelchair to come bond me out.

What is your favorite song to perform?
My twerk song “Let’s fu*k, right now, ass up, face down, do it..do it.. do it..do it “ it gets the people going!
