Kid Cudi is expanding his creative horizons with his upcoming comic book ‘Moon Man’, which he co-wrote with Kyle Higgins and will be released by Image Comics in January 2024.
The rapper and actor revealed the project at New York Comic Con, where he described it as one of the “coolest things” he has ever worked on.
‘Moon Man’ follows the story of Ramon Townsend, an astronaut who becomes a celebrity after saving his crew from a disastrous moon mission.
But there is more to his heroism than meets the eye, as he discovers that he has been transformed into something extraordinary by the mysterious events that occurred on the lunar surface. As he struggles to cope with his new abilities and identity, he also faces the consequences of his actions for the world and himself.
The comic book is influenced by Miracleman, a classic superhero saga created by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman that explored the realistic and dark implications of having godlike powers in a modern society. Higgins, who is also the writer of ‘Radiant Black’, another Image Comics title, said that ‘Moon Man’ is their version of Miracleman for the 2020s, with a contemporary and stylish aesthetic that reflects Kid Cudi’s vision.
Kid Cudi, who is also known for his music and acting career, has been a fan of comics since he was a child.
He said that he wanted to create something that would be different from anything else on the market. And that he was proud to collaborate with Image Comics, a publisher that supports creative freedom and diversity. He also shared a teaser image of the comic on his Instagram account, where he thanked his fans for their support.
‘Moon Man’ is not the only venture that Kid Cudi has been working on lately.
He also launched his own clothing line, WZRD CWBY, in collaboration with NIGO, the founder of BAPE. The line is inspired by his love for 90s grunge, hip hop, and futuristic elements. He also released a new song with J. Cole, ‘First Person Shooter’, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
‘Moon Man’ will hit the shelves on January 31, 2024.
