Emaza Gibson, a former member of the musical group Ceraadi, has filed a lawsuit against Jason Derulo, alleging that he sexually harassed and intimidated her after signing her to his record label.

Gibson claims that Derulo expected sex and cocaine use in exchange for success and that he terminated her contract when she refused his advances.

Aspiring Singer Accuses Jason Derulo of Sexual Harassment and Intimidation in Lawsuit

The Allegations

According to the lawsuit filed on Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Gibson met Derulo in August 2021 and signed a deal with his Future History imprint at Atlantic Records. The deal required Gibson to produce a mixtape in four months. And an album in six months, and it also included a single featuring Derulo.

Gibson alleges that Derulo made explicit demands for sex and cocaine use during their recording sessions, saying that she needed to succeed in the music industry. She also claims that he repeatedly invited her to dinner and drinks at a members-only lounge, but she declined to keep their relationship professional.

The lawsuit states that Derulo became angry and aggressive when Gibson rejected his sexual advances and that he verbally abused and threatened her in front of other people. Gibson says that she felt unsafe and had to bring her mother to the meetings with Derulo, which upset him even more.

The Termination

Gibson says that she worked hard to create music for Derulo and Atlantic Records, but that she never received any feedback or support from them. She was left alone in a room with a woman who indicated that she was in a sexual relationship with Derulo during a meeting in New York.

The lawsuit alleges that Derulo stopped communicating with Gibson after that and that he eventually dropped her deal without any explanation on September 6, 2022. Gibson says that she reached out to Derulo’s manager, Frank Harris, and Atlantic Records for help, but they ignored her requests.

Gibson is now suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety and has lost her opportunity to pursue her solo career. She is seeking damages for quid pro quo sexual harassment, breach of contract, intimidation, and violence, among other complaints.

The Response

Derulo has not yet responded to the allegations or the lawsuit. His representatives did not immediately reply to requests for comment. Derulo is known for his hit songs such as “Whatcha Say”, “Talk Dirty”, and “Savage Love”. He is also a popular social media star, with over 50 million followers on TikTok.
