Blueface is receiving backlash after throwing wads of cash into a crowd of people on skid row in downtown Los Angeles.
On Monday (Dec. 23), the 22-year-old L.A. rapper posted a video of himself standing on a black SUV in front of a tent-lined sidewalk and throwing bills into an ecstatic crowd.
“The season of giving,” Blueface captioned the Instagram video. Read More Blueface Scores First Billboard Hot 100 Entry With ‘Thotiana’
But it appears the generous stunt may have backfired on the rapper, whose real name is Jonathan Porter. Many people have commented on social media that the act was humiliating to homeless people and may have put them in harm’s way.
“I couldn’t see myself even picking up that money smh hella disrespectful,” one person wrote in the comments of the video post.
Another wrote, “This isn’t any different than them strippers you was throwing money at laughing at them.”
Blueface made his first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year with his song “Thotiana.”
The rapper drew buzz beginning last year thanks in part to his high-pitched voice, which fans have likened to cartoon character Courage the Cowardly Dog. A series of memes took off on YouTube, with clips of his music soundtracking the cartoon.
