The YSL rapper celebrates another milestone for his hit song from his album ‘A Gift & A Curse’.
Gunna has been on a roll since he dropped his first project after being released from prison in December 2022.
His album ‘A Gift and a Curse’ debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned the smash hit single ‘Fukumean’, which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. According to Spotify, the song also became the most streamed rap song of 2023 in the US.
Gunna has another reason to celebrate, as ‘Fukumean’ has officially been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The certification means that the song has sold over one million units in the US. Gunna shared the news on his Instagram story on Wednesday (October 4), with a screenshot of the RIAA website and no caption.
‘Fukumean’ is not the only song from ‘A Gift and a Curse’ that has achieved platinum status.
The album’s lead single, ‘Bread and Butter’ featuring Drake, also went platinum in August. The album itself was certified gold by the RIAA in September, meaning that it has sold over 500,000 units in the US.
Gunna’s success comes despite the controversy surrounding his involvement in the YSL RICO case, which also implicated his mentor, Young Thug, and several other members of their label. Gunna accepted a plea deal in exchange for his testimony, which some fans accused him of snitching. However, Young Thug’s father recently defended Gunna and said he did nothing to hurt their case.
Gunna has also been performing live for the first time since his release from jail.
He sold out two shows in New York City and Los Angeles last month, where he performed songs from ‘A Gift and a Curse’ and his previous albums. Fans are hoping that Gunna will announce a full tour soon as he continues to dominate the rap game with his catchy melodies and smooth flows.
