Usher was honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday (June 30), cementing his status as an R&B icon. The ceremony also saw him win Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.
The award was presented by music industry legends L.A. Reid and Babyface, who praised Usher’s profound impact on music and his personal growth[3][4]. In a powerful tribute, artists like Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Marsha Ambrosius, Chlöe, Tinashe, Victoria Monét, Teyana Taylor, and Latto performed renditions of Usher’s hit songs, including “U Don’t Have to Call,” “You Make Me Wanna…,” “Good Good,” “There Goes My Baby,” “Superstar,” “Good Kisser,” “Nice & Slow,” “Bad Girl,” and “Yeah!”.
During his acceptance speech, which was intermittently disrupted by audio issues, Usher expressed gratitude to the artists who performed in the tribute. He reflected on his journey, acknowledging the challenges he faced but emphasizing the rewards of dedication and passion. Usher humorously questioned if it was too early for him to receive the award, considering his ongoing plans in music.
The R&B legend encouraged others to pursue their dreams with commitment, stating, “If you’re dedicated to something, and you find passion, and you stay committed to it, this could potentially be you.” Usher also thanked his fans for their unwavering support, emphasizing that he could not have achieved this milestone without them.
