Baby Storme, a musician, has shared alleged text messages between herself and Ice Spice, claiming they were once best friends. The screenshots, labeled “Isis’ Second Phone,” discuss the song “Barbie World,” which was a standout track from the soundtrack of the 2023 film “Barbie.” The song, featuring Nicki Minaj, has garnered over 139 million YouTube views as of the reporting date.
The messages attributed to Ice Spice express gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate on “Barbie World,” which was initially offered to her alone by the “Barbie” producers. However, Ice Spice chose to invite Nicki Minaj on the track, considering it a part of Minaj’s brand. The messages also mention Ice’s manager, James Rosemond Jr., and publishing.
In contrast, Nicki Minaj discussed the creation of “Barbie World” during an interview at the film’s Los Angeles premiere, stating that she loved the “Barbie” sample and wanted it to have a dope drum. She jumped on the track immediately after receiving the initial beat. The song was produced by RIOTUSA, Ice Spice’s go-to beatmaker, and features a sample of Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl.”
Notably, “Barbie World” marked the highest charting song from the movie’s soundtrack, debuting at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. This achievement made it Minaj’s 23rd Top 10 hit and the fourth for Ice Spice. Minaj and Ice Spice previously collaborated on the remix of “Princess Diana,” which was included on Like..? (Deluxe).
