Rich Homie Quan’s Estate Releases “Song Cry” as First Posthumous Single

Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, tragically passed away on September 5, 2024, reportedly due to an alleged overdose. The news of his death sent shockwaves through the music community, prompting fans and collaborators to express their condolences on social media. Quan was known for his significant contributions to hip-hop in the early 2010s, particularly with hits like “Type of Way.”

On September 17, his estate released a posthumous single titled “Song Cry,” coinciding with a celebration of life ceremony held in College Park, Georgia. The track features poignant lyrics reflecting on loss and resilience, showcasing Quan’s artistry even after his passing. At this time, it remains unclear whether “Song Cry” will be part of a larger project or remain a standalone release.

Details surrounding his death have emerged from an incident report by the Atlanta police. According to the report, Quan was discovered unresponsive by his girlfriend, Amber Williams. She initially found him asleep on the couch after leaving to take their children to school. Upon her return, she noticed he was still unresponsive and called 911 after realizing his body was cold.

Quan’s father, Corey Lamar, revealed that the rapper had an extensive collection of unreleased music, stating there are “probably over 2,000 unreleased songs” that they intend to share with fans. He mentioned that they had recently completed a project with around 20-25 songs and were in the process of scheduling video shoots.

Rich Homie Quan was only 33 years old at the time of his death and is survived by five children. His family plans to hold a public funeral service to honor his legacy and connection with fans.
