Former Outlawz rapper Napoleon has accused Snoop Dogg of sneak-dissing 2Pac in his recent interviews and trying to take away his shine.
Napoleon, who left the rap game after converting to Islam in 2001, spoke to The Art of Dialogue and shared his thoughts on Snoop’s relationship with Pac.
Napoleon said that Snoop was the biggest star on Death Row Records before Pac joined the label, and he had to adjust to Pac’s popularity and influence. He also said that Snoop was not happy with Pac’s beef with The Notorious B.I.G. and Puff Daddy, and he wanted to work with them instead.
“Some of these individuals are very slick,” Napoleon said. “You have the Hughes brothers; you have certain individuals like Snoop, for example—they have a way of acting like they praise Pac, but they’re putting him down. Like Allen Hughes said, ‘Snoop dimmed his light for Pac to shine.’ They do it in such a slick way so you can be like, ‘Oh wow, he’s not a hater.'”
Napoleon also criticized Snoop for saying that he didn’t like Pac’s infamous diss track “Hit ‘Em Up”, which targeted Biggie and Bad Boy Records. He said that Snoop should have told Pac how he felt face-to-face instead of waiting until he was gone.
“Maybe some of the things he couldn’t tell Pac face-to-face, you know, he can do in these interviews,” Napoleon said. “It’s sad. And one of the reasons I always try to correct this is because he and Pac were friends. … I already know why he doing that, bro.
Imagine if you’re the biggest star on Death Row and Pac comes and takes all your shine, you understand? And 25 years later, Pac died, and every time you do an interview, that name is brought up. So maybe he’s just trying to take that shine from Pac. You know what I mean?”
Snoop Dogg has not responded to Napoleon’s claims yet, but he has previously admitted that he and Pac had a complicated friendship. In an interview with Big Boy in April 2023, Snoop said that they were best friends a week before Pac died, but two days before he died, he didn’t think Pac liked him.
Snoop also revealed that he was working on a biopic about his life with director Allen Hughes, who recently made a docuseries about Pac and his mother Afeni Shakur called Dear Mama. Hughes praised Snoop as one of the most internationally beloved figures in Hip Hop and said that he dimmed his light for Pac to shine.
