Normani came to slay. Two years after making her VMA debut, the R&B sensation returned to the stage at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. Dressed in a silver sculpted top and baggy pants, she paid tribute to her idol Aaliyah while delivering a nostalgic performance of her Cardi B-assisted single “Wild Side.” Normani and her crew of dancers tore up the stage with their choreographed moves against the all-white set.
Cardi, who welcomed her second child earlier this month, was unable to make it. However, Normani had another surprise in store when she brought out Teyana Taylor. While Teyana was strapped into a chair, Normani got on top of her in a steamy homage to Janet Jackson’s provocative tour performances.
In addition to Normani, Sunday’s VMAs featured performances from Lil Nas X, Chlöe, Busta Rhymes, Olivia Rodrigo, and more.
