Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey may have divorced in 2016, but the rapper and TV host still has much love and respect for his ex-wife. In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Cannon opened up about his relationship with Carey and how he would “still go hard” for her and “lay down” his life for her.
Cannon, who shares 10-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with Carey, said that he considers her his “family” and would always support her. “I love Mariah. I’ll never stop loving her,” he said. “She gave me two amazing, beautiful gifts. We talk every single day. We are family.”
He also praised Carey for being a “legend” and a “queen” in the music industry and said he would defend her against anyone who disrespects her. “I will go to bat for her. I’ll go to war for her. I’ll lay down my life for her,” he said. “That’s the mother of my children. She gave me the most amazing gift ever.”
Cannon also addressed the rumors that he and Carey are getting back together, saying they are just friends and co-parents. He said he respects Carey’s current relationship with businessman Bryan Tanaka and is happy for her. “She’s with someone right now who loves and treats her well,” he said. “I’m glad she’s happy.”
Cannon, who recently welcomed his seventh child, Zen, with model Alyssa Scott, said that he is not looking for a serious relationship and is focusing on his children and his career. He said he is not opposed to getting married again but that it would take a lot of time and effort to make it work. “I’m not good at it,” he said. “I’m not good at monogamy.”
He also joked that he would need a woman who was as successful and talented as Carey to make him settle down. “Maybe if I could find another Mariah,” he said. “But I don’t think there’s another Mariah out there.”
