Rod Wave, the Florida rapper known for his heartbreak anthems like “Dark Clouds,” “Poison,” and “Fk the World,” is looking to switch up his sound. On May 16th, Wave tweeted, “Stop sending me them sad a beats. That st is over; I need some Future type st.” Metro Boomin, Future’s frequent collaborator, responded enthusiastically, “Let’s go!”
Fans are already excited about the potential collaboration between Wave and Metro Boomin, with one Twitter user predicting, “That next album is about to break the internet.”[1] Wave hasn’t released an album since 2023’s Nostalgia, which was his third consecutive No. 1 on the Billboard 200. He became only the second artist after Taylor Swift to achieve this feat since 2021.
In an interview with Billboard, Wave expressed his disbelief at being compared to Swift, saying, “Being compared to Taylor Swift, you can’t even wrap your head around that kind of s**t. I remember ninth grade, being on my school bus listening to ‘Blank Space.’ Being in these conversations, it don’t really hit you. I was just on the sidelines. Now I’m really in the game. I went from the nosebleeds to the franchise player of the team with three rings.”
Metro Boomin, on the other hand, has been prolific in recent months. He and Future released two collaborative projects, WE DON’T TRUST YOU and WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU, featuring artists like Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Rick Ross, ASAP Rocky, Lil Baby, J. Cole, and Ty Dolla Sign.
