Earlier this month, Ye and Ty Dolla Sign released the deluxe edition of VULTURES 2 exclusively on Ye’s website. This edition features tracks such as “TAKE OFF YOUR DRESS” and “DRUNK,” along with the Kid Cudi collaboration “GUN TO MY HEAD.”
However, Kid Cudi was unaware that the song had been released until a fan informed him on Sunday evening (August 25) while he was at the airport. Engaging with supporters on Twitter, he initially expressed hope that Ye would drop the track one day. Upon learning that “GUN TO MY HEAD” was already available, he responded, “Where??? I [want to] hear. I forgot what it sounds like. I only heard it once since I recorded it when he played it that one time at the listening event.”
Another Twitter user noted that the deluxe edition was sold out on yeezy.com, which meant Cudi couldn’t access the track legally. He humorously replied, “What [the] hell is he [doing]??? Haha, [I’m going to] talk to him.”
“GUN TO MY HEAD” was recorded spontaneously during Ye and Ty Dolla Sign’s listening event for VULTURES in Las Vegas, surprising fans given the artists’ previous fallout in 2022.
In a conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Kid Cudi reflected on their reconciliation, stating, “He [has] said some things that he might not be able to come back from in a lot of realms, in a lot of spaces, from certain people. But we grow, and I pray for him, and that [is] my brother.” He emphasized that their renewed relationship stemmed from a sincere apology from Ye, noting, “I was just like, ‘Wow. Kanye does not apologize to anybody [or] say ‘Sorry’ to anyone.’”
