The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has launched a limited-edition MetroCard featuring Bronx rapper Ice Spice[3]. The special cards, which showcase Ice Spice in a “Versace Goddess” T-shirt, fishnet tights, and leather shorts, will be available starting today (May 13) at select vending machines in Fordham Road, Penn Station, and Times Square[3]. The MTA has printed only 50,000 of these commemorative MetroCards.
The collaboration comes ahead of Ice Spice’s highly anticipated debut album, Y2K, set to be released later this year. The album is expected to include her recent single, “Gimmie A Light,” which dropped on May 10. The track, produced by RIOTUSA, samples Sean Paul’s 2002 hit “Gimme the Light” On the song, Ice Spice pays homage to her Bronx roots, rapping, “I take her man out of boredom/ Bad b**ch, came straight outta Fordham/ Now I’m rockin’ Balenci’/ I remember I couldn’t afford ’em.”
In an interview with Complex in February, Ice Spice expressed her excitement about the upcoming album, saying, “I just can’t wait for my fans to hear the new music. There’s some new songs on there that sound different from a lot of my other songs. I’m so excited about that.” She also revealed that the album’s title, Y2K, was inspired by her birth year, 2000.
“Gimmie A Light” follows the release of Ice Spice’s January single, “Think U The S**t (Fart)”[4]. The rapper explained that the idea for the track came from a meme sent by a friend in September, which she found hilarious and decided to incorporate into her recording process.
