Big Sean Reveals Release Date for Upcoming Album ‘Better Me Than You’

On Thursday, July 18, Big Sean announced that his sixth studio album, Better Me Than You, will be released on August 9 through Def Jam Recordings. This announcement was accompanied by the release of a new single titled “Yes,” providing fans with a glimpse of his latest work.

The album’s trailer, which lasts just over a minute, features psychedelic visuals reminiscent of his mini-documentary Clarity and the pre-release track “Precision,” both released in March. The trailer highlights themes of “clarity, focus, happiness, and pressure” before revealing the album title.

This announcement comes on the heels of an unfinished version of Better Me Than You that was leaked online, allegedly by a fan of Kanye West. The leak was reportedly a reaction to perceived jabs at West during Big Sean’s recent “On The Radar” freestyle, where he included lines such as, “I got better things to do than find someone to beef with.” In response to the leak, Big Sean addressed the issue during an Instagram Live session, asserting that he did not believe West would engage in such behavior and expressing his disappointment over the leak.

Better Me Than You is positioned as a follow-up to his 2020 album Detroit 2, which featured popular tracks like “Harder Than My Demons” and “Deep Reverence,” featuring Nipsey Hussle. The new album is expected to include collaborations with various artists, continuing Big Sean’s trend of high-profile features.

In addition to his music, Big Sean is also set to release a book titled Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace in October. This interactive guide aims to help readers unlock their potential through transformative practices, marking his first literary endeavor outside of music.
