2 Chainz is leaving the trap.
The Atlanta rapper surprised fans by announcing that his next album will be his final trap album. Taking to Twitter, Tity Boi shared the news with his 4.4 million followers.
“This gone be my last trap album , enjoy,” he tweeted.
2 Chainz has pioneered the trap genre, releasing a series of trap albums throughout his career including 2012’s Based on a T.R.U. Story, 2013’s B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, 2017’s Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, and 2019’s Rap or Go to the League. His most recent album, So Help Me God, dropped in November featuring appearances from Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and more.
“So Help Me God is a testimony about being truthful,” he told Hot 97. “I like to call it a light during a dark time, meaning that it’s still a time capsule of what’s going on in 2020…but it’s not the dark side of 2020. I wanted to have something cool, something fun that could still be looked at that we know this came out in 2020. It’s very relevant.”
It’s unclear when he plans to release his final trap album or what kind of music he will create after. Last year, he teased a sequel to Collegrove, his 2016 collaborative album with Lil Wayne.
2 Chainz can also be seen alongside Yung Bleu and Chris Brown in the video for “Baddest.”
