Today we has an exclusive chance to interview a talented rapper Timmy Turn Up:
What is your legal name and age?
My name is Larenz Roberts-Kelly I am a 24 year old Hip-hop artist going by the stage name of Timmy Turn Up.
Why did you first start making music?
When I first started making music I wasn’t even making it just rapping with friends I, was not even close to confident enough to take it serious once I hit like 19 that’s when I decided to take it serious and started recording off of a snowball microphone in my mom’s basement and the whole plan was to put my all into something and ultimately become a great.
Who would you say inspired you the most, as an artist?
when it comes to inspirations as a artist I’ve pulled a lot from the other guys coming up in the Pittsburgh music scene at the same time as me there’s tons of talent around almost every corner.
What’s the best advice you ever received?
I’ve received a lot of great advice but the very best was do the right things even when no one is watching because the most important conversations regarding you will be in a room you are not in.
What is still your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge at this point is just beating myself as many times as I can when you treat every music video like it’s a timeless work of art it becomes a constant nagging thought of can I do better and if so what is better, what does that sound and look like.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
People often describe the music I make as very versatile some tracks are energetic and catchy while others are more soulful and thought provoking then some can be sad and bleak it’s honestly however I’m feeling when I’m in recording.
What’s the coolest, most important show you’ve played to date?
The coolest show I’ve played so far had to be between one of the Stonergang events In Pittsburgh or The Stop we
took in Baltimore on the black 2 School college tour or The show Hendy hosted in Atlanta not this summer but last it’s been an amazing experience to preform in front of so many awesome people in amazing places that it was hard to even settle on a three-way tie.
What’s your latest release?
My latest release is a music video directed by shotbyshawn called Broke Bloke Recorded it was super fun to make Shawn went crazy if he’s filming you already know you’re getting saucy visuals to go with your track the song itself was recorded at ID Labs which was a vibe forsure the music video is actually shot there as well.
What’s your best advice for handling criticism?
The the best advice I can give you is simply use it as fuel for the fire if something hurts put it in the music you feel mad put it in the music life falling apart put it in the music there’s others out there that feel the same exact way as you even if it’s something outside of music.
What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered?
When everything’s said and done I just want to be remembered as a artist that pushed the culture forward in a positive way if I can bring back less trolling and more artistry i’d say the battle was one.
