Today we had an exclusive chance to interview Dre MckFly:
ARN: Why should people fuck w/ you?
Dre MckFly: I have a dope sound. A new swavey sound. Just new content. My music’s different than the average rap artist or what’s going in today’s music. I have a different story to tell, a whole different vibe.
ARN: How would you describe your sound, Drill New Age Hip Hop?
Dre MckFly: Can`t put it in any box, it has trap elements in it. It has a lot of soul and raw rap in different aspects of it. It’s innovative, euphoric, and refreshing.
ARN: You’re from Long Island, New York. How does that play into your life and career?
Dre MckFly: It brings out a different side of me. A lot of my family is from Queens and Brooklyn. Being out there shows me a different side of life. The living is different from the boroughs.
ARN: Who are some artists you grew up listening to?
Dre MckFly: Nas, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Dave East, a lot of older artists.
ARN: How important is it to come to LA as an up and coming artist?
Dre MckFly: It’s very important. In your field, you have to be around the people who are doing what you love to do.
ARN: What’s your favorite part about the West Coast?
Dre MckFly: I like the food, the food is dope. I like that they promote healthier foods here more than New York.
ARN: At what point did you realize this music thing was for real?
Dre MckFly: When I was in high school, probably 11th grade. I’m like “Yo I really got to do this shit for real.” It was a change in my life, I was gonna get out of high school soon. Either you go to college… I went to college, but I’m like “you gotta do something with your life.” Music is the only thing I love to do the most, so that was the way for me to go.
ARN: Was there a point in your career musically you accomplished or something that told you that?
Dre MckFly: When I seen how people responded to my records I was putting out. At first, I wasn’t going to put out any records. I was just going to make music in my room. But once I decided to put out music and people started responding, I felt like I had a job to do.
ARN: Were you scared or nervous?
Dre MckFly: No. I mean, there are frightening times when you have to perform and do different things. Being more vulnerable and accepting to the world, that’s the hardest part.
ARN: What was the inspiration behind keeping your real name?
Dre MckFly: Because it’s organic. It’s me. It’s original. My first name when I first I came out was Dre McFly.
