From violence and trials in the streets, to rising rap artist building a legacy out of the trenches.
Born and raised in Chicago Illinois 79th and Paulina, Geno West came into this life bearing the name of his Grandad to break generational curses. His destiny would steer him in the direction of hip hop after experiencing the violence and dangerous environment of his city. Bombarded with trauma, pain, and loss, he charted a path into hip hop under the stage name, Young Prophet.
Sadly, his pain would only grow deeper after the loss of his brother, Gene whose life was taken by his best friends across the street where he lived. That set Young Prophet on a warpath, upping the heat over beats, using the mic as therapy for everything he was going through. His music became a place of solace not only for him, but fans going through it within their own life issues.
Young Prophet has since moved to Las Vegas Nevada, releasing albums like “Sweetest Revenge,” “Off Da Rip,” and “Before The Rap.” Every track holds a piece of his life and thoughts as he lets out his frustration and emotions in the booth. What started as a means to free himself of the rage burning inside, has evolved into a prospering career. Most support his grind, but some threaten death upon his life if he continues to build himself in the rap game. As a response to the dangerous criticism, Young Prophet laughs in the face of his haters with the release of his latest track, “Keep A Pole Wit Me.”
Young Prophet came from the trenches, endured hardships of the streets, overcame loss, and is creating a future that sees his name in the limelight. Follow the Chicago spitter and stream his catalog of hits.
Today we had an exclusive chance to interview the artist:
How did you come up with the stage name?
I came up with the name with my brother Dante when I was thinking about what rap name I will use.
Where are you from?
I’m from Chicago Illinois 79th and Paulina right across the street from where my brother Gene was killed by his best friends.
Where are you now?
I’m in Las Vegas Nevada.
Why did you first start making music?
I started making music to relieve my stress I had inside of me instead violence all my life I had nobody to talk to me and the ones that did didnt understand where I was coming from so I use music to get my frustration out anytime I go threw something I put it in a song.
Have you heard the theory that some musicians write their best music while they’re depressed or going through a bad time?
Yes I have to agree because it seems like that’s the only time I find myself writing music is when I’m going threw something I don’t remember the last time I wrote a song with no problems every song I wrote was based off real life experience I just put it in words to make you dance and laugh at it.
Are you religious? If yes, what is your religion?
No I’m not religious but a lot of people look at my name and think that I am automatically But no I’m not I can just change the way people feel thru my music.
What’s your latest release?
My latest release is I Keep A Pole Wit Me I made this song cause I kept getting so much death threats about how I’m gone die for trying to be a rap artist if I don’t keep a pole on me so I decided to make a song called I keep a pole on me To be funny.
What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?
I learned that when you doing music the closes ones to you will turn they back on you because they may think you got more then what you got.
If you could only listen to 3 albums for the rest of your life, what would they be?
I will listen to Young Prophet – Sweetest Revenge, Young Prophet Off Da rip,
And Young Prophet Before the Rap
