Beginning in the month of March, hip-hop artist DaeShawn Forrest has been luring his followers with the release of “something special.” His first single of the year, “A Moment’s Time,” which served as both a song and a little film chronicling the rise and fall of his engagement only months before what would have been his wedding day, marked the beginning of everything. He expanded the story with the release of his second song and music video, “Walk Away,” in which he discussed his difficulties with getting over his breakup and moving on in life.
After surviving a melancholy spell, DaeShawn went on to record two additional tracks, including the vindictive “Revenge On The Soul” and his most recent single, “Once More”, a track filled with good vibes as the artist discovers a new appreciation for life. He has released these songs throughout the previous four months, each of which contributes in a unique way to the story of DaeShawn’s rise, collapse, and redemption.
After several teasers and sneak peeks, the 22-year-old rapper’s much awaited album, “Transparent 2,” has finally been made available to the general public. The project’s 15 songs take the listener through DaeShawn’s very emotional fall and recovery in his personal life. The second installment of “Transparent” stands up to its name as DaeShawn digs right into his anger issues, broken heart, suicidal thoughts, sadness, trust issues, lustful addictions, and his effort to overcome all of his obstacles. After listening to the entire album, one can easily conclude that the experiences the artist has have had a life-changing impact on him.
“I healed through creating this project”, stated the artist. “I honestly wasn’t concerned about how others may end up viewing this. I know that I was going to dive into the good, the bad, and the ugliest of ugly on this and I was okay with it because all that mattered to me was getting through. It was the worst phase of life I’ve ever been in. I found myself resorting back to old self-destructive habits. I found myself in the darkest head space I’ve ever been in and believed that no one would understand. So, I turned to music and just left it all out there creatively as if I would never have the chance to do this again”, DaeShawn further explained.
The young artist’s greatest work to far, “Transparent 2,” is relatable on a level that many would find enlivening and moving. It is rife with rawness and honest experiences that some people would be reluctant to discuss. He not only uses music to communicate his story, but also uses film to do it.
As it stands we have about 8 music videos that we’ve shot for the project along with some short films to better fill in the gaps of the story,” says DaeShawn. “My desire was to make this more than just a typical album but a complete experience. I want the people to not only feel this musically, but experience it all visually. I think this gives everyone a better understanding of what’s happening as you progress through the album. I have quite a bit of the videos out now, but more will be released over the coming months.”
DaeShawn Forrest also releases a new music video for the song “Close The Door,” an R&B-influenced song featuring Le’Tresse Cherie that displays DaeShawn’s lustful impulses, in addition to “Transparent 2”. He and Kezia Macasa both star in the film, which was co-directed by DaeShawn Forrest and Brandon Orozco. “Transparent 2” is produced by DaeShawn Forrest with some help from long time friend Jenna Rodriguez and is available now on all platforms.
