Cardi B is facing a civil lawsuit from a concertgoer who alleges that the rapper hit her with a microphone during a 2023 performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas. The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, filed the suit days before the statute of limitations expired, claiming she suffered physical injury, severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation, and reputational harm following the viral incident.
According to the lawsuit, Cardi B had encouraged fans to splash her with water to help her cool down during the set, and the plaintiff says she complied with this request in a manner consistent with other attendees.
The complaint alleges Cardi B then reacted in anger by forcefully throwing her microphone, which struck the plaintiff, and that the aftermath was intensified by the widespread circulation of video footage and the eventual auction of the microphone for nearly $100,000.
Jane Doe is also suing Drai’s Management Group, asserting the venue’s security should have intervened, especially since the rapper had thrown a microphone at a DJ during a separate altercation the night before.
Cardi B’s legal team has dismissed the lawsuit, calling it a “pitiful attempted financial shakedown” and pointing out that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office had already closed the criminal case due to insufficient evidence.
The plaintiff is seeking up to $15,000 in damages for alleged physical and emotional injuries, as well as reputational harm. Cardi B’s attorneys maintain that the legal matter had previously been resolved and suggest the civil action is motivated by the opportunity to profit from the rapper’s fame.
