In a legal victory for rapper Travis Scott, the remaining charge stemming from his June arrest in Miami Beach has been dropped. The SICKO MODE hitmaker, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, was initially charged with trespassing and disorderly intoxication after an incident at the Miami Beach Marina.
Earlier this month, prosecutors dismissed the disorderly intoxication charge, leaving only the trespassing case set for trial on September 10. However, on Friday, Scott’s attorney Bradford Cohen confirmed that the trespassing charge has now been dropped as well.
“After arguing the motion to dismiss and the state realizing that there was no path to maintaining the charge, they decided to drop the case in its entirety,” Cohen told TMZ. “Although not a serious charge and one that should not have been filed, we are pleased with the result.”
Cohen further explained on Instagram that the state refused to drop the case initially, but after he filed and argued a motion to dismiss, “the state just gave up and dismissed it right before the court was going to dismiss anyway.” The attorney noted that this could have been avoided if the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office had reviewed the evidence objectively, as they even went as far as putting up “no trespass” signs after the fact.
This legal victory comes on the heels of Scott’s release from police custody in Paris earlier this month, where he was detained on suspicion of getting into an altercation with a security guard at the Hotel George V. The rapper was released without charges, with the Paris prosecutor’s office stating that the incident was minor.
Despite the legal troubles, Scott has been keeping busy on the music front. He recently re-released his project DAYS BEFORE RODEO on streaming services in celebration of its 10th anniversary, and it is currently competing for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart against Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet.
